A McLaren 720S takes on a heavily modified electric Porsche 944 in an unusual quarter-mile drag racing matchup. The Porsche has been converted to electric power using two large DC motors that produce around 960 horsepower and approximately 1,500 pound-feet of instant torque. It also weighs only about 2,400 pounds, giving it an extremely strong power-to-weight ratio. The McLaren relies on its twin-turbo V8, lightweight carbon construction, and strong high-speed acceleration to stay competitive. From the start, the electric Porsche delivers its power immediately without waiting for turbo boost or gear changes. That instant response allows it to build a significant advantage before the McLaren can fully use its speed. The host reviews how the Porsche’s low weight and massive torque make the gap difficult for the 720S to recover.
