1,020HP Tesla Plaid faces 1,000HP McLaren 720S drag race
A 1,020-horsepower Tesla Model S Plaid takes on a modified McLaren 720S Spider producing roughly 1,000 horsepower at the engine. The McLaren uses upgraded downpipes, air filters, and custom tuning to produce approximately 850 horsepower at the wheels. The Tesla relies on three electric motors, all-wheel drive, and instant torque to deliver strong acceleration from a complete stop. Before racing, its battery is at approximately 73 percent, which reduces some of its performance compared with a full charge. Plaid Mode and Drag Strip Mode are activated to prepare the electric drivetrain for the quarter-mile runs. The McLaren enters the matchup with a major weight advantage and strong acceleration once speeds begin to rise. From the starting line, the Tesla uses its immediate power delivery to gain an early advantage. The lighter McLaren then works to close the gap farther down the track with its tuned twin-turbo performance. The quarter-mile results show the two cars running extremely close despite using completely different approaches to straight-line speed. Whipple-blown 427 turns this C10 into a 900HP burnout machine
This classic Chevy C10 keeps its original patina and vintage character while hiding an outrageous modern drivetrain underneath. Power comes from a Nelson Racing 427 fitted with a 3.8-liter Whipple supercharger, producing around 953 horsepower at the wheels on E85 and nearly 1,200 lb-ft of torque, with the engine capable of roughly 1,400 horsepower on the dyno. A built 4L80 transmission, Ford 9-inch rear end, custom two-piece driveshaft, air suspension and large Baer brakes help manage the power, while cleverly designed 20-inch wheels are painted to look like old 15-inch steelies. The custom exhaust can route through mufflers for calmer street driving or switch to a much louder side-exit setup. Despite the huge power, the truck is built to remain usable, combining sleeper-style looks, handmade fabrication and enough torque to turn almost any drive into a burnout session.
